MUSIC

Seeing as I LOVE MUSIC so much and I have nothing better to do on a cold afternoon appart from watch television: I may as well write about what I enjoy (The weather outside is not my cup of tea I'm afraid and it's rather slippy.... I hurt my bottom very badly on my way to the corner shop- so I have decided to stay inside for now and keep warm)

Facts About Music. (The Simpler Version) Where it all started
  • It is probably older than any Language
  • Any Culture is populated by it.
  • Natural Sounds was the creator, influenced by the singing of birds and the sounds that other animals communicated with.
  • First Musical Instrument was possibly the Human Voice. (We Sing, Whistle, Yawn, Laugh, Hymn, Click, Cough, Sneeze etc)
  • The first songs ever sung were love songs.
  • To express fear when faced with death- a chant would be sung.
  • First Rhythm/Percussion Instrument: Clapping of Hands, Clicking of Fingers, Stamped on the Ground (To accompany us while dancing) The Hitting of Stones etc(pounding root and also seeds into meals- a likely source)
  • First Man Made Instrument was the Drum (We can not trace its beginnings...but it is traces amonst all ancient cultures around the world)
  • Wind Instruments: Reed Pipe and Whistle (Created by using Bone, Clay and Wood) From this, the Flute was created (More than 6,000 years ago: Egyptians)
  • String Instruments soon came after them
  • Bone Flutes or Pipes (Paleolithic finds which are concidered musical)
  • It is more usual to call Australian Aboriginal and Traditional Native American Music prehistoric: but more commonly used to refer to the early music in Europe before the development of writing.
  • Non-European music is the survivor and creator of folk, indigenous, and traditional music.
  • Ancient Music is the word given to Music that followed the development of writing.
  • Ancient Music was thought to be a "Monophonic" era, but the "oldest known song" was infact composed in harmonies and thirds. (Proven by archaeological evidence)
First Music

Right- enough about the History.

What about...... Music Through the Ages? (I'll write about that some other time I think)

I'll leave it at that for now
